Lecture: Creating the V&A given by Julius Bryant
Julius Bryant, Keeper of the Word and Image Department at the V&A, gave an interesting and engaging lecture on the key roles played by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as public supporters and large-scale lenders to the V&A.
On Wednesday, November 6, 2019 Julius Bryant, Keeper of the Word and Image Department at the V&A, gave an interesting and engaging lecture on the key roles played by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as public supporters and large-scale lenders to the V&A, before the museum grew its own collections. Julius showed slides of some of the wonderful objects loaned and donated to the V&A by the young royal couple.
The lecture was held at the Bard Graduate Center in New York. Julius stayed afterwards to sign copies of Creating the V&A, his book on the V&A’s early collections which was recently published by Lund Humphries in association with V&A Publishing. This book was made possible with the support of the V&A Americas Foundation through the generosity of the Dr. Lee MacCormick Edwards Charitable Foundation. The lecture and the book are contributions to the 2019 celebrations, which mark the bicentenary of the births of both Victoria and Albert.
