On April 26, Dr Christine Checinska, Senior Curator of African and African Diaspora Fashion at the V&A, and Ernestine White-Mifetu, Sills Foundation Curator of African Art at the Brooklyn Museum, held an enlightening and engaging conversation on the Africa Fashion special exhibition. Hearing from both curators on their respective shows, they discussed the ingenuity and global impact of African fashions from the 1950s to today.
After a successful run at the V&A from July 2022 to April 2023, Africa Fashion opened at the Brooklyn Museum on June 23. Africa Fashion is the largest-ever presentation of its subject: featuring over 180 works including a dazzling array of garments, visual art and much more. The exhibition is organised thematically and journeys through multisensory experiences with immersive displays of clothing, photographs, music, film, and more.
Africa Fashion ran at the Brooklyn Museum from June 23 to October 22, 2023.
