Sydney: November 11 1989 by Patrick Heron, 1993

Patrick Heron was a pioneering abstract and figurative artist.

This is a cotton warp, wool and cotton weft tapestry designed by Heron, made by the Melbourne Victorian Tapestry Workshop, depicting an abstract design of Sydney harbour. This is one of two tapestries made from Sydney gouaches by the Workshop. Heron, famed for his direct response to the elemental forms of landscape, represented Great Britain at the first Sydney Biennale.
